Where your medication data is kept
A list of what you take, when you take it and who else you look after is about as personal as data gets. The simplest way to protect it is not to hold it anywhere.
What stays on the phone
- Your medicines, their schedules, strengths, colours, shapes and photos.
- Every dose recorded, with its time.
- The people you look after and their medicines.
- Your settings.
What leaves the phone
Two things, neither of which concerns your medicines. The list of other Novaz apps in Settings is fetched from novaz.app, and the app may fetch a small configuration file so settings can be adjusted without an update. Neither request carries anything personal. If you buy PRO, Apple handles the payment and tells the app whether the subscription is active — we never see a card number.
Why there is no iCloud sync
Apple's App Store guideline 5.1.3(ii) forbids storing personal health information in iCloud, and a list of medicines is exactly that. The database is created with iCloud explicitly turned off. The cost is that there is no automatic sync between your devices; the benefit is that there is no copy of your medicines in anyone's cloud, including ours.
Moving to a new iPhone is done with a backup file you keep.
What we can see
Nothing. There is no account, no analytics SDK in the app and no server receiving anything. This website uses Umami, a cookieless analytics tool that counts page views in aggregate — that is a website, not the app, and it cannot see anything about your medicines.
FAQ
- Is my data in my iCloud backup?
- Your iPhone's own encrypted device backup includes the app's data, the same as every other app. That is Apple's backup of your phone, not a sync of your medicines to a service.
- Does it write to Apple Health?
- No. The app neither reads nor writes Health data.
- What happens if I delete the app?
- Everything in it goes with it — medicines, history, profiles. Make a backup file first if you might want the record back.
Pill Reminder helps you remember your medicines and keep a record of them. It does not give medical advice, suggest doses or check interactions. If you are unsure about a medicine or a dose, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Never miss a dose again
Pill Reminder reminds you at the right time, records the dose from the Lock Screen, looks after the whole family's medicines, and keeps a history you can hand to a doctor — all on your iPhone, with no account.
