Back up your medicines, and move to a new iPhone
Because nothing syncs to a cloud, a backup file is how your medicines travel. It takes about ten seconds and is worth doing before anything that changes phones.
Make a backup
- Open Settings inside the app and find Your data.
- Tap Back up to a file.
- Save it in Files — in iCloud Drive, on the device, or anywhere else the share sheet offers.
The file holds your profiles, medicines, schedules and every dose recorded.
Move to a new iPhone
- On the old phone, make a backup and save it somewhere the new phone can reach — iCloud Drive is the easiest.
- Install Pill Reminder on the new phone.
- Open Settings › Your data › Restore from a file and pick the backup.
- Check what the app tells you about the file — when it was made and how many medicines it holds — before confirming.
- Allow notifications on the new phone. Reminders are rebuilt from the restored medicines straight away.
Restoring replaces everything
A restore is not a merge. Everything on the phone now — medicines, profiles, history — is replaced by what is in the file. The app says so and shows the file's date and medicine count before it does anything, so read that screen rather than tapping through it.
Where to keep the file
It is a plain file with your medicines and doses in it, so treat it as you would a letter from a doctor. iCloud Drive or a password-protected folder is sensible; a shared family folder is not.
FAQ
- Does an iPhone-to-iPhone transfer bring the app's data across?
- Apple's own device transfer and encrypted backup include app data, so usually yes. The backup file is the way to be certain, and the only way to move a single app's data on its own.
- Can I restore onto a phone that already has medicines on it?
- You can, but they will be replaced, not merged. Back up that phone first if its data matters.
- Is the backup file encrypted?
- It is a plain data file, protected by wherever you keep it. Store it somewhere you trust.
Pill Reminder helps you remember your medicines and keep a record of them. It does not give medical advice, suggest doses or check interactions. If you are unsure about a medicine or a dose, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Never miss a dose again
Pill Reminder reminds you at the right time, records the dose from the Lock Screen, looks after the whole family's medicines, and keeps a history you can hand to a doctor — all on your iPhone, with no account.
